    Experience Points Cross Stitch

My first entry in geeky cross stitch was this hilarious and easy to follow experience points pattern! I love Etsy's ability to bring me closer to people who share my hobbies. When gaming and crafting come together, it's music to my ears. That's why when I found this pattern from Rather Unseemly, I knew it was the first cross stitch I was going to try. If you don't know, sellers on Etsy have the ability to sell digital items. In this case, for a couple bucks I bought a PDF wit

DIY gaming bead coasters: Mario, Pokémon and Pac-Man

Here's a throwback to one of my first gaming themed crafts circa 2013. Perler beads are like putting together a puzzle. Sometimes it's very frustrating but once you get everything in place, it feels very rewarding to see the finished product. Perler beads are small pieces of plastic that mold together when heated with an iron. I decided I wanted to try to make some coasters with mine. Materials needed: Perler beads (various colors) Pegboard and ironing paper (or parchment pap

    Pokémon inspired hand knit blanket

After visiting the Pokémon Centers in Japan, I fell in love with the Easter Pikachu and Eevee plush collections. The pastel colors with the characters immediately made me want to make something that reflected their charm. So I made a blanket! I'll start by saying I am awful at most kinds of crocheting and knitting, but when I came across something called loop yarn, I learned I actually COULD make something! This craft is so simple and looks very fancy when it's done. Material

4 resolutions for 2019: games, crafts, savings and the environment

I'm not usually one for coming up with new year's resolutions because I feel if you're going to try and do something, either you will or you won't. But I've been working to make some changes in my life and since I have a blog now, maybe it'll help hold me responsible. 1. Play more games This may sound silly to a non-gamer, but do you know how hard it is to actually focus on playing games? Yes, I go home almost every night and game. But in the past, I'd spend months and even y

Dungeons & Dragons themed can cover Christmas gifts

Want your own can cover? Buy a D20 can cover for $7 a piece on my site here. In mid-2018, my friends and I started playing Pathfinder, a modified version of Dungeons & Dragons. One or two weekend days a month we get together to spend the afternoon making potentially bad decisions that are going to send us one step closer to death. During a recent session, I kicked something I shouldn't have touched and basically "broke the world" so I think that's going to come back to bite u

Halloween throwback: 2012 Mario Kart costumes

In 2012, we hosted a video game themed Halloween party at our house. My husband (then boyfriend) and I decided to put together our own Mario Kart costumes in one weekend! I had a floor-length pink dress left over from being a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding years before. We sewed a few darker pink pieces onto it and voila! It's Princess Peach! I purchased a Peach-inspired crown and a Mario hat from Radiant Designs off Etsy and found a cheap blonde wig. My boyfriend's outfit

    Magic the Gathering mirror

My husband has a slight Magic the Gathering obsession. We lost track of our dining room table because it was so full of MtG cards so we ended up turning one of our extra bedrooms into his own Magic room. I recently purchased a Cricut machine for craft projects and decided to try my first vinyl test with a mirror. I found a mirror at Old Time Pottery for $10 that would work great for this quick project. I searched online for a MtG-type font and found "Magic: the Gathering" fon

Decorating a phone case using a Cricut machine

For the last year I had a fun pikachu phone case that I got at the Pokémon Center in Japan. I’m finally upgrading my phone to the iPhone XS and it was time for a new case. Instead of looking for a Pokémon phone case, I decided to buy a clear case from Amazon and add some small Pokémon flair to it using my Cricut machine. I purchased a Pokémon pack of svg files from BKA Workshop on Etsy (hopefully I’ll find uses for the other ones!) and cut some small pikachus into gold vinyl
